Coed Volleyball Overview:
Season Length : Regular season is 7-8 weeks long with play-offs following regular season, UNLESS season is deemed shorter
Number of Players : Minimum of 8 on a team. No limit to the number of players on each team Teams are Co-ed, 6 players on the field (max. 3 men and 3 women).
Equipment : Teams provide balls. PSS provides jerseys, and referees.
Team jerseys (tee-shirts) will be provided and must be worn at all games and at the sponsor bar
Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated!!!
All players must be signed-up with Planet Social Sports, be on their team's roster form, have a completed waiver form, and be wearing their team's shirt before they can play

THE SEASON

To be considered eligible, players must:
Be at least 21 years old by the start of the season.
Have a current, signed waiver.
Be on the team roster.
Play for only one Planet Social Sports team.
Be wearing their current Planet Social Sports shirt.
Never have played professional volleyball.
If you played D1 college then you must be out of it for at least 5 years.
Using ineligible players will result in forfeit of all affected games.

TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT
Team captains (or appointed captains) are responsible for their team's actions. Only the team captain may interact with a referee regarding a call during the game. Teams please clean up after your games and keep the facility clean.
This is a social league and unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. Players are obligated to act appropriately at the courts during game days. The referees will call unsportsmanlike conduct for:
-Any excessive attack on the net.
- Any excessive hit deemed unsportsmanlike by the referee’s.
- Taunting the other team in any manner.
- Abusive or insulting language to anyone.
- Aggressively challenging the ref.
- Any other inappropriate behavior.

RULES OF THE GAME
GAME CLOCK
The rec. center clock will be the official game clock. All teams must be set and ready to play at the scheduled game time. The clock will not wait for teams that are not ready.

BALL IN PLAY
The ball is in play from the moment of the serve. The serve will not be official until the referee gives the
“ready for play” signal. The ball is out of play at the moment of the fault called by the ref. A ball in play at
the end of the 45 minutes will continue to be in play until a point is scored (or side-out).

BALL AT THE NET
-While crossing the net, the ball may touch it (except at the serve).
-A ball driven into the net may be recovered within the limits of the three hits (except at the serve).

START / TERMINATION OF MATCH:
1. The referee shall toss a coin and one captain shall call it in the air. The winner shall choose either serve, receive, or playing area. The loser of the toss is given the remaining choice. A coin toss will determine the serving team for the third game (during playoffs).
Teams must start or continue play if they have at least four players. There must be at least as many women on the court as men at all times. There is no limit on the number of women players
2. The Home team serves first 15 points to win the games. Win by two with a cap of 17. A match consists of best two-out-of three games. If a third game is necessary, rally scoring will be used to (also to 15 points, win by two with a cap of 17).
Rally scoring means that a point is given on each serve no matter which team is serving.
If the third game is not completed by the time limit, the team that is ahead wins.

1. Six players, 3 men and 3 women, constitute a team on the court. Any number of
substitutes is allowed. List all players that are present for the game on the official score
sheet. Players are only eligible if they have signed the Roster/Liability Waiver for that
team and are listed on the master roster.
2. Planet Social Sports supplies game equipment. Teams should bring their own volleyballs for warm-up and practice.

TIMES AND SUBSTITUTIONS:
1. Forfeit time 5 minutes after scheduled start time.
2. Each team is entitled to two 30-second timeouts per game. (non-accumulative).
3. Substitutions are allowed on any dead ball. Subs are unlimited and may be made by a rotation of players.

THE SERVE:
1. A legal serve is contact with the call in which the ball is hit by one hand or fist, while the
ball is held or after it has been tossed up in the air.
2. Each member of a team shall serve in turn. Serving out of order causes a side-out and loss of points served by that person, if discovered before the opposing team scores.
3. All players must be within the playing area at the time of the serve.
4 Rotation occurs on the receiving side when they get the right to serve (side out). All players rotate clockwise one position.

DURING PLAY:
1. Back line players shall not participate in the block or attempt to block, hit, or strike a ball higher that the net on / in front of the 10 foot line.
2. No players may step COMPLETELY ACROSS the centerline. A player may cross the centerline with his/her foot as long as part of the foot is on or above the centerline and the player does not interfere with play of an opponent.
3. A legal hit is contact with the ball by a player’s body above and including the waist that does not allow the ball to visibly come to rest. The ball may not be lifted, pushed or thrown.
4. If a player goes up to block and the ball falls on his/her side of the net, the player may play the ball again. This contact counts as the first contact for his/her side.
5. Simultaneous contact of the ball by teammates shall be permitted and considered as one play and either player involved may participate in the next play.

NET PLAY:
1. Reaching over the net is permitted during the follow-through of a hit made on your side,an attempt of a hit or fake hit, or block attempt.
2. Blocking a ball that is entirely on the opponent’s side of the net is permitted when the opposing team had an opportunity to complete its attack.
3. It is NOT legal to block a serve. The ball may be played off a serve be the front line players, but cannot be hit directly back to the serving team.
4. Contacting the net or any part of it, including the net supports, while the ball is in play is prohibited, except by a player’s hair or unless the force of the ball by an opponent pushesthe net into a player.
5. If the volleyball hits a ceiling obstruction on the opponent’s side of the court, it is a sideout. If a ball hits a ceiling obstruction during a series on the team’s own side, the ball is in play.

CONDUCT:
1. The referee shall have the power to warn, declare side-out or point, or disqualify from the game or match, any player, substitute, or spectator who persistently addresses the official with regard to decisions, make derogatory remarks about or to the officials, or commits derogatory acts to the officials. The Planet Social Sports will support any decisions make by an official.
2. The captain is responsible for his/her team and should be the only person to discuss objections or opinions with the officials or Planet Social Sports personnel.
